How to Play LieBound: Rules, Roles & Strategy

LieBound is an asymmetric multiplayer social deduction game played across alternating night and day phases for 7 to 15 players. Deception, alibis, and deductive reasoning decide whether the town identifies the underground Killer or falls under their control.

Character Roles & Abilities

🔪

The Killer (Underground Faction)

Elimination • Deception • Night Action

The Killer wakes every night to silently nominate one player for elimination. During daytime debate, the Killer acts as an ordinary citizen, providing false alibis, steering suspicion onto others, and preventing the town from reaching consensus.

Win Condition: Eliminate or outnumber living Citizens until the Killer faction controls the majority.
🔍

The Detective (Town Faction)

Investigation • Intelligence • Night Action

Each night, the Detective chooses one player to inspect. The private interrogation reveals whether that player is innocent or the Killer. During daytime tribunals, the Detective must share clues carefully without exposing their identity and becoming the Killer's next target.

Win Condition: Identify and help the Town vote out all Killers.
🩺

The Doctor (Town Faction)

Triage • Protection • Night Action

Each night, the Doctor selects one living player to shield. If the Killer targets that same individual, the attack is foiled and the target survives. The Doctor cannot protect themselves indefinitely, requiring careful prediction of the Killer's strategy.

Win Condition: Shield valuable citizens and eliminate all Killers.
🐍

The Survivor (Neutral Independent)

Survival • Neutral • No Night Action

The Survivor has no faction loyalty and takes no nocturnal actions. The Survivor wins alongside whichever side claims victory—so long as they remain alive at the conclusion of the match. If the Survivor is eliminated at night or voted out by the tribunal, they lose.

Win Condition: Stay alive until the end of the game, regardless of who wins.
⚖️

The Citizen (Town Faction)

Debate • Deduction • Daytime Ballot

Citizens make up the town majority. Possessing no special nocturnal abilities, Citizens depend upon observational intelligence, active cross-examination during daytime discussions, and collective ballot voting to purge the Killer.

Win Condition: Uncover the Killer's lies and vote them out at the tribunal.

The 4 Phases of Every Round

Phase 1

Nightfall (Covert Operations)

Darkness blankets the town. Citizens sleep while night roles take secret actions on their device screens. The Killer selects a strike target, the Detective investigates one suspect, and the Doctor chooses a citizen to protect.

Phase 2

Dawn (Morning Casualty Report)

The morning bell rings and all living players gather. The game announces if someone was eliminated during the night, or if a doctor's intervention saved a target. Eliminated players reveal their true identity and enter spectator mode.

Phase 3

Daytime Discussion & Accusations

A timed open deliberation phase begins. Players compare alibis, evaluate odd behaviors, cross-examine claims, and vote on which player should be summoned to the accused podium.

Phase 4

Tribunal Defense & Final Ballot

The accused suspect takes the stand to deliver their defense. Once their speech concludes, the assembly casts formal ballots to either eliminate the accused or grant a pardon. If eliminated, their role is revealed and nightfall returns.

Tactical Strategy Tips

Tips for Citizens & Town Roles

  • • Track voting patterns closely: notice who defends whom during tribunal ballots.
  • • Detectives should drop breadcrumb clues without making themselves obvious night targets.
  • • Doctors should anticipate the Killer's high-value targets (proven detectives or strong advocates).
  • • Avoid hasty accusations; forcing someone onto the stand prematurely wastes daytime deliberation.

Tips for The Killer & Deceivers

  • • Blend into the conversation naturally; absolute silence is just as suspicious as aggressive deflection.
  • • Sow subtle discord by raising plausible alternative theories rather than blatant denials.
  • • Eliminate silent threats early to keep the town debating without verified investigative leads.
  • • Take calculated risks: agreeing with a majority vote can cement your image as a trustworthy citizen.
